Grand Teton National Park
After breakfast, we went for a walk around town and I suddenly thought, Oh, I need gloves and put them on. When we got going in the car, checked the temperature it was -7C. Maximum today was -6C. We set off early for the park. Just out of Jackson we saw four moose - very exciting. When we actually got up into the park it was snowing moderately and the roads were very icy. I was a little apprehensive about this as when we've driven on icy roads before we've had studded tyres but these tyres are 'all weather' tyres. Seemed to cope OK. The scenery was quite beautiful and we saw a mother grizzly and two cubs. When we got back to Jackson we decided to stay another night at the lovely Parkway Inn as we would have had a long drive, out through Idaho and up to Montana. We were speaking to a man who owns an art gallery and he said, when we told him where we saw the bear, the bear we saw was famous - Shes No 399 and has been in the news across the west of the USA. Margie from the Parkway Inn said you can Google Bear 399 and get her story. You can actually buy bumper stickers that say "I saw Bear No 399". Wouldn't go over too well at home. It's the first bear I've seen in the wild. We've taken advantage of a spare afternoon. I've had a swim in the indoor pool, then a spa.
