Essex - Glacier Park - Montana

Essex – Montana

We drove from Great Falls yesterday. I have a plan for cutting fossill fuels and getting rid of any carbon tax. Just get rid of everything that's in Montana and build an enormous wind farm. (not that they don't have them already). It is so windy nearly everywhere. Don't mind the cold but have had enough of the wind. Driving the last 20 miles – through East Glacier and onward – it snowed with wind behind it. There were whirlwinds of snow, and snow blowing horizontally. Visibility was not good. We were the only ones driving west – no brains. There was a convoy of cars going east. Our little car and all weather tyres did very well. We're staying in the luxurious locomotive at Izaak Walton Inn. It's beautifully appointed. If you want to see it look at www.izaakwaltoninn.com. The living room and bedroom windows have a view of the railway line and trains are frequent and varied. John is in his element. We've seen the Empire Builder from Chicago last night, where two people got off to stay here, and this morning, the eastbound Empire Builder. Trains go up to Marias Pass – three engines on the front and two helper engines on the back (for those who are interested). Went for a walk in the snow yesterday and this morning. Snow is now bucketing down but we're reasonably protected from the wind here. The weather report was for 36 degrees F and no snow. We had dinner with the two people who came off the Chicago train - Ren, who is a Professor, always wanted to be a train driver, so he and John can frequently be seen wandering beside the tracks taking photos.
